My Notes from SS25 Fashion Week - Spring/Summer Trends from Fashion Week
Spring/Summer Trends from Fashion Week
As the new season approaches, it’s time to embrace the latest Spring/Summer trends that are set to take over wardrobes everywhere. After travelling to Harrogate Fashion Week and seeing the standout styles from the big Moda event in Birmingham, one thing is clear: sherbet colours are the stars of the season.
It was a long day visiting Harrogate—I set off on the 7am train and didn’t get home until 8pm. 16,000 steps later, I was done! But it was all worth it to see the exciting new trends coming through for the season ahead.
From light, floaty pastels to bold, almost neon hues, this colour palette is making waves in fashion collections across the board. Coral and lime green are particularly strong, injecting a fun and fresh feel into both casual and occasion wear. Whether you're a fan of soft, feminine pastels or love to make a statement in vibrant shades, there’s something for everyone in this colour trend.
Bright & Bold: The Power of Sherbet Shades
This season is all about contrast and colour. Think soft lemon yellows, delicate mints, and dreamy lilacs, right through to eye-catching tangerines and zesty limes. Designers are blending these hues with light, breathable fabrics, making them perfect for spring layering and summer styling. Flowing chiffons, lightweight linens, and breezy cottons are key materials that will bring these colours to life.
For those who prefer a more classic look, neutrals can be paired effortlessly with sherbet shades to create a balanced, stylish contrast. A lime green blouse with crisp white trousers or a soft coral dress with a beige trench coat will keep things fresh yet elegant.
Sherbet shades are not my comfort zone when it comes to colour because of my colouring, but I saw some amazing trainers and accessories that I could incorporate with some of the other trends that I’m more comfortable with.
Animal Print – Still Roaring in Accessories
Animal print continues to hold its ground, particularly in accessories. While head-to-toe leopard or zebra print might not be as dominant, shoes, trainers, and scarves are embracing the timeless trend. If you’re looking for an easy way to incorporate animal print into your wardrobe this season, opt for a leopard print handbag or a pair of snake-print loafers. These subtle touches add a touch of edge to any outfit without overwhelming your look.
The Trainer Trend: Platforms & Gum Soles
Footwear is seeing a serious refresh this season. Platform trainers, inspired by Russell & Bromley’s Park range, are making their mark as a stylish and comfortable choice. They offer a slight lift while still being easy to wear for everyday activities.
On the other hand, flat gum sole trainers are making a statement in bright, contrasting colours. From electric blues to neon pinks, these sporty-chic styles are perfect for adding a playful edge to your casual outfits. Whether you prefer a sleek, minimalist platform trainer or a bold, colourful gum sole design, there’s plenty of variety to suit different style preferences.
Wide-Leg Trousers: A Must-Have
For those who love relaxed silhouettes, you’ll be happy to hear that wide-leg trousers are still going strong. This season, they appear in both denim and floaty, textured fabrics, making them a versatile piece for any occasion. Whether you opt for a structured, high-waisted denim pair or a soft, pleated style in a pastel shade, this trend is both stylish and comfortable.
Pair wide-leg trousers with a fitted tank or blouse for an effortlessly chic look, or go for a co-ord set in matching sherbet shades to fully embrace the season’s biggest colour trend.
Coastal Chic: Stripes & Soft Knits
Another recurring theme spotted at Fashion Week was coastal chic with a hint of preppy style. Stripes are making their return, whether in classic navy and white or bold, unexpected colour combinations. Expect to see striped tops, breezy midi dresses, and oversized shirts as key pieces in this trend.
I personally love this style—it’s so classic that it never goes out of fashion. Whether it's a striped Breton top, a bold striped blazer, or even striped knitwear, this trend always feels fresh yet timeless.
To complement the nautical influence, soft knits in vibrant sherbet shades are also making an appearance. Perfect for layering in the cooler spring months, these lightweight jumpers and cardigans add a pop of colour while keeping you cosy. A striped knit in pastel hues or a colour-blocked sweater in coral and lime will bring the best of both trends together effortlessly.
Metallic Magic: The Move Towards Gold
Accessories are seeing a metallic shift, with gold taking the spotlight. This season, everything from handbags and shoes to jewellery collections is embracing a golden glow. Designers are moving away from silver tones, favouring warm, rich gold hues that add a luxurious touch to any outfit.
I have to admit, I absolutely love gold shoes and bags, but gold has never been my go-to colour for jewellery. However, this season has totally surprised me—I’ve found myself wearing more gold accessories, and I think I’m actually heading in that direction. It’s such an unexpected shift for me, but I’m really enjoying incorporating it into my wardrobe. Gold loafers, a statement clutch, or chunky gold jewellery can instantly elevate even the most casual looks. Whether you’re dressing up for an evening event or just want to add a little shine to your everyday style, these golden accents are a must-have for Spring/Summer 2024.
A Brighter Season Ahead
All in all, this season’s trends are all about embracing colour, contrast, and fun textures. As the weather brightens up, so should our wardrobes! Whether you prefer floaty pastels, structured wide-leg trousers, bold neon tones, or statement accessories, there’s plenty to get excited about.
The best part? There’s a trend for every style. Whether you're drawn to stripes, checks, animal prints, or metallics, you’ll find something that makes you feel fresh and fabulous.
