One More Day of Dry January – Did You Make It?

We’ve almost made it—January is nearly over! For those of you who took on Dry January, the finish line is just a day away. Whether you’ve powered through without a single drop or found yourself caving for a well-earned glass of wine mid-month, the fact that you set yourself a goal is something to celebrate.

Personally, I don’t subscribe to Dry January. It’s not that I’m against it—in fact, I think it’s an amazing challenge for those looking to reset after the indulgence of December. But for me, my focus this year has been on a different set of resolutions. Instead of cutting something out completely, I’ve been looking at ways to prioritise health, balance, and growth—both personally and for Bou-Chique.

As we head into February, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on the past month and share a little about what’s been driving me in 2025.

A Different Approach to New Year’s Resolutions

I’ve always been someone who loves a fresh start. There’s something about January that makes me want to get organised, set goals, and create a plan for the year ahead. But this time, I decided to take a more realistic approach to resolutions.

Rather than setting rigid, all-or-nothing rules (like Dry January), I’ve been focusing on progress over perfection. That means small, sustainable changes that fit into my daily routine rather than drastic commitments that feel overwhelming.

My two main areas of focus this year? Prioritising my health and growing Bou-Chique in exciting new ways.

Focusing on Health in a Way That Works for Me

Let’s be real—January is a tough month to start any kind of strict health routine. It’s dark, it’s cold, and the post-Christmas slump makes motivation hard to come by. That’s why I decided to ditch the pressure and focus on changes that actually feel doable and enjoyable.

For me, that’s looked like:

  • Drinking more water – It sounds so simple, but I’ve really noticed a difference in my energy levels and skin just from being more conscious of staying hydrated.
  • Getting outside every day – Whether it’s a quick walk before opening the shop or a longer stroll on my days off, fresh air has been a game changer for my mood.
  • Finding balance with food – No extreme diets, no restrictions—just a more mindful approach to what I’m eating, making sure I’m getting plenty of nourishing, feel-good foods while still enjoying treats in moderation.

I haven’t given up caffeine, I haven’t banned chocolate from my life, and I definitely haven’t sworn off Friday night fizz. But I do feel like I’ve taken small steps towards feeling my best, and that’s what really matters to me.

Big Plans for Bou-Chique in 2025

Alongside my personal goals, I’ve also been pouring my energy into growing Bou-Chique this year. Running a boutique isn’t just a business—it’s a passion, and I’m so excited about what’s in store for 2025.

So, what’s on the horizon?

1. Expanding Our Collection

One of the biggest goals this year is to bring in even more carefully curated pieces that truly reflect our boutique’s style. We’re always on the lookout for unique, high-quality fashion that makes our customers feel amazing, and I can’t wait to share some of the new arrivals we have lined up.

2. Improving the Online Shopping Experience

We know not everyone can pop into the shop in person, which is why we’re working hard to make our website even better. That means more detailed product descriptions, better photos, and an even smoother checkout process—so you can shop with us anytime, anywhere.

3. Hosting More Events & Experiences

One of my favourite things about running Bou-Chique is getting to connect with our customers beyond just shopping. This year, Helen and I want to bring more in-store events, styling sessions, and maybe even a few surprise pop-ups to create a fun, interactive boutique experience. Helen is looking into colour analysis which would be such a unique service for us to offer.

4. Sharing More Behind-the-Scenes Content

I love showing the real side of running a small business—from the exciting moments to the everyday chaos. This year, I want to share even more of our journey, from new stock arrivals and styling tips to the challenges and triumphs of boutique life.

January Reflections & Looking Ahead

As the first month of 2025 wraps up, I feel really good about the direction I’m heading. Have I stuck to every single goal perfectly? Absolutely not. But I’ve been making progress, and that’s what really counts.

For those of you who completed Dry January—well done! You set yourself a challenge, and you saw it through. And for those who didn’t quite make it? That’s okay too. The real success isn’t about perfection—it’s about making choices that align with what feels right for you. I write this while sipping a spritz!

As we step into February, I’m excited to keep building on the small wins—whether that’s making more time for self-care, introducing new ideas to Bou-Chique, or simply enjoying the journey without the pressure of being perfect.

If you made resolutions this year, how are they going so far? Have you kept them up, or are you adjusting them as you go? I’d love to hear what goals you’re working on—drop a comment or come chat with me in the shop!

Here’s to a fantastic year ahead—whatever that looks like for you!
